Style Inspiration: Salvador Dali

I  first started to do my “art for fashion” inspiration series with Gustav Klimt’s Water Serpents in a previous post. I had so much fun putting together colors for outfits that best visualized the feel and character of the painting.

Salvador Dali was a Surrealist Spanish painter in the 1900s. Dali believed in having symbols in all of his works, as well as a love for luxury and bold statements (if only he designed clothes..sigh)

His Rose Meditative piece is my favorite (the rose was a symbol for simplicity and female sexual power)  see below for the style inspiration.

1. Tart Berry Rum dress $47.99//2. Turnlock crossbody bag $79.50
3. Natural wave belt $14.99// 4. Etre sandals $69.99

Pink and Green

I have not done an outfit post in a looooong time so why not show you an outfit I wore to a wedding this past weekend! As an avid vintage lover, I adore any dress that shows off a 1950s/60s style. I paired the coral eyelet halter dress with a mint green belt from H & M and white platform sandals ($15 from TJ MAXX!)

After this outfit, now I want to constantly wear pink and green together!
(would it be obnoxious if I wore these colors in the winter?)

dress: Miss Sixty// shoes: TJ MAXX// belt: H &M

What two colors do you love putting together?!

Old People can have style too!

Ahh the power of blogs. One blog in particular that I have been following (while I was on a hiatus) is Advanced Style, a blog dedicated to the “stylish and and creative older folks”.

I have never seen more creative, eclectic and SUPERB fashion anywhere else. The elderly are not afraid to  color block, accessorize and look fabulous. Personal style really does advance with age.

Here are a few of my favorites.

Grandma loves her neon colors.

From the fur, to her bakelite jewelry..she is fabulous!

Gorgeous mix of bold colors

Leopard never goes out of style

Perfect gentleman.

Making Waves in Hollywood: Colored Denim

There are a number of ways to insert a pop of color to your daily wardrobe. None, however, is as effective or all-encompassing as this season’s latest emerging trend- brightly-colored denim.

Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Hayden Panettiere, Rachel Bilson, Nicky Hilton, Cameron Diaz and Sarah Jessica Parker, to name only a few, have jumped on the bold-colors bandwagon. Some of them are seen here wearing colored denim by J Brand.

A celebrity embracing a trend does not necessarily mean that it will translate to the real world. However, when it comes to bold denim, the insurgence of color in your wardrobe is effortless and effectual.

Wear colored denim, but avoid getting too match-y with your accessories and tops. Your jeans should be the dominant color in your outfit, so keep the rest of the items you’re sporting basic. Stick to neutral colors, as our celebrity friends did in the above pictures, and let your statement-jeans get noticed!

Livening up your denim with bold colors brings a touch of whimsy to your wardrobe. Keep your accessories and accompanying clothes casual, and let your bright denim speak volumes.

Shop Luello.com for denim by J Brand and for other summer style ideas!

Style Inspiration: Gustav Klimt

There is no doubt you can withdraw inspiration from looks on the street, or the runway. There is something to be said about trying in fashion and major works of art, and Gustav Klimt’s paintings are ones that can be recreated into a wardrobe. If you have not heard of this great painter, Gustav Klimt was an Austrian artist and a respected member of the Vienna Secession movement.  His subjects were almost always a female body, feminine, erotic and saturated with colors.

The Lace, the Garter and the Dress

Follow my blog with bloglovin

Whether you are getting married soon or you will just be a guest, it is always fun to look at wedding dresses. I have never been the one to get into specific styles of wedding dresses (I am more of the just-give-me-something-white-and-simple-to-wear  type of girl) but you can never underestimate the beauty of detail, creativity and quality in a wedding dress.

The vintage appeal in SVETLANA LYALINA ‘s 2011 collection is gorgeous, I can’t help wanting so much lace on me! (photos by Marina Danilova)

Blair Waldorf (from Gossip Girl) is one of the popular style inspirations but my favorites are in the shows Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Mad Men and Glee. Maya Hansen Heavy Metal 2010 collection

If you have never heard of Maya Hansen, I suggest you go here and acquaint yourself!
The beautiful corsetry work Miss Hansen designs every season has been
a favorite of mine (think of her as the Betsey Johnson of corsetry)

This past collection that was shown during Madrid Fashion Week in February
had a lot of heavy metal/rock influences

Mix of elegance in gowns and the bad-ass look of heavy metal?
(why wouldn’t I like it?)

see more from the collection here

What do you think?!

xoxo

Happy Weekend!
